Year 5/6 Trip to the Yorkshire Museum/Viking Centre!

Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful day on Friday at the Yorkshire Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. The children met a real Viking woman called Freya, who showed them various Viking artefacts, and introduced them to her family. The children had the chance to dress up as Vikings and take part in various Viking themed activities, which included playing Viking games, having a go at weaving on a loom, playing Viking musical instruments and even de-nitting scalps!

After lunch we made our way to the Jorvik Centre, where we were met by a very friendly Viking, who told us all about the origin of York and Coppergate. Once we were in the Viking Centre we were taken back in time to visit a real Viking town. We witnessed all the sounds and smells of what it would have been like in Viking times, we even saw a man going to the toilet in the street!

We arrived back at school very tired but also very excited about what we had seen and learnt.

A big thank you to those parents who helped out on the day, it is very much appreciated!
