Our Local Church

St Matthew’s Church, Naburn is an Anglican Church with a rich history dating back to the 19th century. Before 1842, the village of Naburn lay within the parish of Acaster Malbis. This meant that residents were required to cross the river by ferry to go to church. Naburn became a separate parish in 1842, but its church wasn’t constructed until 1854. It cost £2,407 to build. Sadly the church was declared redundant after very costly repairs were discovered in 1991. After a long period of fundraising, the church reopened in 1999 and has thankfully served as a cornerstone of the community ever since. The church provides a place for worship and spiritual growth for the local community.

We greatly value our links with St Matthew’s Church, which is just across the road from school. We visit the church for services, such as Harvest, Easter and Christingle, and visit to find out more about the building and its uses.
